MISSION STATEMENT

The Hendersonville Library Friends is a community based, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the Hendersonville Public Library. The mission of the Hendersonville Library Friends is to support the library through awareness, advocacy and enrichment with events, programs and projects.

MEETINGS:

BOARD MEETINGS are normally held on the second Thursday, every other month at 1:00pm in the Board Room of the Hendersonville Public Library. New & existing members and new ideas are always welcome (meeting dates may be verified in advance by e-mailing: swilsontn@aol.com). This is a great way to learn what the Library Friends are doing and our plans for the upcoming months. If you would like to join the Library Friends, a membership form can be found on the Membership tab. Simply ‘save’ the form to your computer, print and mail the completed form to the address listed on the bottom of the form

The Board members for 2016-2017 are: President: Shani Wheatcraft; Vice President: Jeanie Johnston; Treasurer: Shirley Wilson; Secretary: Dale Ellison; Directors: Barbara Harover, Pat Lincoln, Joe Ellison, Renie Brown, Pat Collier, Jeanie Wynne and Jerry Plummer.

FALL BOOK SALE:  Our Fall Book Sale was once again, a ‘huge success’ …. “Thanks” to the library staff, volunteers and customers for ‘helping us help the library’ (see below). Book donations are already being sorted in preparation for our Spring/Summer sale in the May/June time frame


SPRING AND FALL BOOK SALE FUNDRAISERS: Each Spring and Fall the Hendersonville Library Friends holds “Book Sales” events, selling donated books and other media. All profits from the book sales benefit the library through the Library Friends. One recent purchase/donation to the library was a new kiosk for the Teen Room. Funds are used in many way to fund many library activities including those listed below. Thanks again to all for your support!!! Donations may be made at the library front desk any time throughout the year. Your donations are tax deductable and greatly appreciated.

Monies raised through the sales allow us to make purchases or fund programs/activities that benefit our Hendersonville Library, such as the following:

-Funded expenses for the Children’s and Youth Summer Reading Programs:

-Funded expenses for the Adult Summer Reading luncheon;

-Funded the start-up cost for the Library Reading Group;

-Purchased games for the Family Game Night program;

-Purchased NYT bestseller and other books of interest for the library;

-Funds for three United States flags for the library per year;

-Purchased USB microphone for the Rosetta Stone Language workstation;

-Funded Holiday decorations for the library interior and exterior;

-Provided lunch for the library staff during Library Week;

-Hosted a retirement reception for Virginia Duffett and an Ice Cream Social to welcome the new Library Manager, Lalani Sabo.

HOW TO REQUEST A BOOK PURCHASE BY THE LIBRARY - Like for the library to purchase a book?? A requet may be made by going to the Library Website (http://www2.youseemore.com/hendersonville/Default.asp) look on the right hand side under “Quick Links” and click on the red block, “Suggest an Item”. You do have to identify yourself and enter your library card number.

OLD COLLECTOR BOOKS FOR SALE - HLF has many old collector books for sale … go to the Old Collector Books For Sale page for a listing. All sales benefit the library and are tax deductable!!
